I just had the chance to speak with Ryan Clark, manager of 12 cubed sustainable micro housing company. 12 cubed, I discovered, builds modern stylish homes that fit in a 12 ft by 12 ft by 12 ft space. The house fits two comfortably and space is available for four for those out of town guests.
Well, what’s the big deal about a small house, you might ask.
The deal is that the average Canadian apartment produces 5 tons of Carbon Dioxide per year while the average 12 cubed home produces only 0.8 tons. In addition to the low carbon emissions, the micro housing units are built to LEED standards, are fully solar compatible, and can be plumbed for grey water recycling or even a composting toilet! Even better, the units can qualify as a secondary suite and can provide rental income.

We did come and enjoy the music, food, people and the festival this weekend. It was awesome! The music was great, food was incredible and we left with a fistful of information and a gratifying feeling about being part of something good.
