Drop your rigid plastics off at the Organic Islands festival gate on July 10th & 11th to be made into eco-lumber at Syntal Products Ltd. in Saanichton.
Before dropping off your clean, dry household plastics, be sure to:
- Rinse milk containers with the tiniest drop of detergent
- Leave lids off all containers
- Remove all non-plastic parts (screws, axles, circuitry)
- Reduce bulk by stacking and/or crushing
- For liquid detergents, remove the spout or cut the jug and drain
Remember that detergent removes vegetable oils, solvent removes motor oils
ONLY drop off plastics that have #1,2,4,5 or 7 on them. If you can’t find the number, put the item in your usual recycle. Please do not drop off any Styrofoam meat trays, pump spouts, CD’s, DVD’s, CD/DVD cases, or plastic bags (besides the plastic bag you drop off your rigid plastics in).
For drop-off of your rigid plastics after the festival, you can visit Syntal Products Ltd. at 6722 Bertram Place in Victoria, BC, and for more information about what they do, you can go to http://organicislands.ca/blog/2010/06/so-wheres-your-empty-milk-jug-now/

We did come and enjoy the music, food, people and the festival this weekend. It was awesome! The music was great, food was incredible and we left with a fistful of information and a gratifying feeling about being part of something good.

What a brilliant way to introduce people to such a wonderful local product! In fact, the whole lineup for Organic Islands looks fantastic this year.
Thanks Freya! every little bit makes a difference.
